Honest Earnest ARTIST

In these classes, students will create their own paintings by studying established painters. We will examine colors, textures and subjects through the work of these painters.  Each week I will introduce a new artist, show images of their work, read about the artist and explain their time in history. The students will paint several small paintings with respect to this established artist. People with special needs are welcome.

Growing ART

Growing Art classes are for artists with special needs.  These classes are tailored toward the individual’s style and their capabilities.  This class will use exercises where play and fun are emphasized. Students will create individual and group paintings using paint and textured gels. While Growing ART is designed for the individual with special needs - Art For Well Beings encourages people of all skill levels to attend. This class aims to broaden and enrich the participants artistic direction.

AFWB Class Description

Spring series FROM THE GROUND UP begins the week of April 23, 2007 — final classes are the week of June 11, 2007

Nature and plants are the symbols. Classes will focus on the transformation of plants.

Art for Well Beings offers these classes.

Paint by Puzzle ©

Tuesdays 11:30 – 12:30

Fee: $144 / series  Drop in $25
Eight Tuesdays April 24 – June 12
Open to the public.
Maximum 12

The paint by puzzle workshop was developed by artist Judy Gittelsohn as a way to offer a relaxing (you don’t have to make it look like something) and rousing (you paint with a group) painting experience that highlights the individual artist and creates a one collective painting. No painting experience is required. This class is very serious play.

Each session participants will work on completing a composite painting. Artists will fill in their outlined areas with Golden Acrylic paints — giving artists an opportunity to explore mixing colors and enjoying the painting process with out worry. Then, when the individual panels are complete, we puzzle the panels together to create a group painting. The final painting is always a surprise. Our strokes are unique as well as our application — Each person uses blue differently. Paint by puzzle paintings are a marvelous mosaic.

All materials provided. Please wear clothes for painting.

This Class is designed for people recovering from illness or injury. The goals are to spread out or open up. We will work on recognizing and soothing feminine expressions which support healing through painting.

Spring season will focus on nurturing the Kindhearted Cycle of Plant life — starting with representing seeds, the series will progress with plants as seedlings, rooting, surfacing, sprouting, blossoming, flowering, proliferating and expiring. Paintings, artworks, real plants and images of plants — we will be the reference for perception in our individual and group exercises. No previous experience is required. Open to the public.

All materials provided. Please wear clothes for painting.

Encouraging discovery of the inner artist who has so much to say, this class is geared toward people with developmental disabilities and is open to the public. Participants are the developmentally disabled population from C.A.R.’s (Community Association for Rehabilitation) after school recreation program. Our first series will be Plant It Paint it. This is a study of plants in their garden.  We will use group and individual exercises to experience the cycle of plants from seedling to fruit bearing. A warm group welcomes you to join us.

Teach the teachers

In these sessions, we study how to implement a specific project or a curriculum.  Practicing the exercises involving the process and steps of a project — we use the direct trial-and-error experience  method and incorporate the use of movement and words to bring the visual art exercise to life. The goal is to understand the exercise, infuse meaning in the process and to dissect the points of learning and growth for your particular recipients.  What are the important aspects of this exercise?  What can be streamlined?  How can this be tailored for your group?

Girls to women

Currently conducted offsite , Art for Well Beings is working with the Girls to Women organization of East Palo Alto.  Our aim is to create a book of their artwork that supports and encourages the girls in their development.
